After some trouble with the image chat, Storm King expresses his frustration at how useless the Staff of Sarcanas is, but Tempest assures her master that he will become all-powerful once he uses the staff to take the princesses' magic. The Storm King first appears when he contacts Tempest via magic potion after she had successfully conquered Canterlot and captured Princesses Celestia, Luna, and Cadance by petrifying them with obsidian orbs while Princess Twilight was able to escape with her friends. The Storm King agrees to this, making Tempest the commander of his army, but secretly plans on betraying her when he has the chance. Tempest strikes up a deal of her own with him: She will help the Storm King take over Equestria and he will be granted enough power to rule the world and restore her horn. However, the Storm King crushes the malachite, not needing any bad luck. The King agrees to help fix Tempest's horn should she pay him with the malachite. The unicorn reveals her name as "Tempest" and tells him about his broken horn. The Storm King himself catches the unicorn in the act, though is impressed by her avoidance of his forces. The Storm King's search for the malachite becomes harder when a unicorn with a broken horn steals the malachite, sending the Storm Guards on a chase for her. He soon follows one of his loose airships, steered by Capper and Chummer from Abyssinia to retrieve the Misfortune Malachite. After throwing him overboard and killing him, he enslaves Captain Celaeno and her crew to become cargo-holders for him. The King eventually hunts down Strife and captures him. Enraged, the Storm King appoints a menial worker known as Grubber to be his 2nd-in-command and fix the ship. Strife sabotages the ship, steals the malachite and the other ships, and leaves. However, he is betrayed by Strife, who teams up with the Storm King's rivals, Captain Celaeno and her crew. Departing the broken kingdom, the Storm King plots to use the malachite's power to help him take over the world.
