![]() ![]() The dungeons themselves come in three distinct forms, each with their own unique visual style showcasing different aspects of the alien armada. But in true roguelike fashion, your trek through the dungeon's depths will never be the same twice, resulting a constant air of uncertainty. MOTHERGUNSHIP MODS FULLFrom there, you're dropped into a randomly generated dungeon where you'll fight through rooms full of alien robots as you gain experience and funds to power up and buy new gear. ![]() You choose your next mission from your home base-which comes in several categories of various story and side missions that offer bonus rewards. When it comes to its core run-and-gun gameplay, Mothergunship keeps things simple. The Colonel and his crew of rebels-which includes an anthropomorphic frog, poking fun at Star Fox's Slippy Toad-serve great supporting roles as you amass a ridiculous arsenal of weapons and level up your power suit. However, the many cheesy voice-overs and the self-aware video game humor throughout are surprisingly endearing, even if it's mostly background noise. The main story itself is entirely secondary to the action, mostly offering context for the game's antics. Stepping into the boots of a space soldier in a power suit, you'll work with a tight-knit crew of rebels, led by The Colonel, who plan to stop an alien invasion of earth led by the titular mastermind Mothergunship. As you're dodging hundreds of enemy bullets you'll find that Mothergunship offers a satisfying and fun take on classic first-person shooters. As the spiritual successor to indie roguelike FPS Tower of Guns, this homage to '90s action games balances a number of clever mechanics throughout its pulse-pounding jaunt through the inner depths of alien ships. You can try out its gun-crafting system for yourself in this demo.Mothergunship wastes little time in throwing you head-first into its fast-paced and over-the-top bullet-hell experience. I admit that I've not had a chance to poke around since my initial review, so I'm eager to see how the game feels now. MOTHERGUNSHIP MODS UPDATEThe Friend-ship update added online co-op, as well as adding a few new bits of content and beginning rebalancing, though nothing quite on the scale of today's patch. This isn't the first major update for Mothergunship since launch. The new mode (unlocked after beating the new story stuff) is focused on building up weaponry using parts from your stash instead of relying on random shops and item drops, which should make for some interesting feats of min-maxing. Lower tier guns should be more viable and the most frustratingly bullet-spongy enemies should be a bit more fragile. Grip Digital and Terrible Posture Games (co-developers) reckon they've improved balance too, with the early-game story missions being easier to get through, while the endgame should ramp up harder. There's new gun parts to find (and new ways to tap into your personal stash once a mission has begun), new room types, more music and the new map-set has been added to the endgame which should help bump up replay value. There's some new enemies to fight across all environments - four new basic opponents, a new boss (the Dragon Train, pictured above) and mini-bosses integrated at the end of levels.Ī wild ship has appeared! Update coming.soon. The alien fleet now has a new ship type, which looks defined by its cool blue aesthetic and crackling lightning panels. ![]() The headlining feature of this update is a new story campaign called "What's in a Name?", featuring new characters, and hopefully building on the awkward cliffhanger ending of the original launch. Below, a brief peek at a new environment type. MOTHERGUNSHIP MODS PATCHLooking at the patch notes for today's update, Grip Digital claim to improved on all that, tightening its gun-crafting systems and adding a new playmode encouraging building very big, daft guns. When I reviewed it in July, I thought it was technically impressive but still a little under-baked, with too few environments, enemy types and an oft-frustrating economy. MOTHERGUNSHIP MODS FREEI was looking for an excuse to return to roguelike FPS Mothergunship, and today's free "Namengineers" update looks like a fine reason, adding a little more of everything. ![]()
